Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has clarified his decision to reverse his position on the contentious tax reforms bill, stating that his initial concerns have been addressed, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
During a recent appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, Governor Sule, a former vocal critic of the bill, clarified that his opposition was not to the concept of tax reforms itself, but rather to the original content of the bill, emphasizing the need for thorough discussions to address potential issues before any decisions were made.
“We have achieved our goal, and that is the reason today I talk differently. I talk differently because the goal we wanted to achieve has been achieved.
“We wanted the bill to be further discussed and not passed in its original form. Now, there are opportunities for further review, and I commend the House of Representatives, particularly the speaker, for the way they have handled the issue,” Sule stated.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the lawmakers’ current handling of the bill, particularly the House of Representatives and its speaker, noting that the concerns raised by him and others had led to a more thorough examination of the bill.
