The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has clarified that the Federal Government is not imposing any additional charges on Nigerians accessing the ongoing special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom, SavannahNewnow Reports.
The Minister, in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Alao Babatunde, expressed concern over the inconvenience reportedly experienced by some Nigerians in the UK during the application and processing of their international passports.
Tunji-Ojo explained that the intervention exercise was introduced to provide Nigerians in the United Kingdom with additional options for processing their passport applications.
He, however, stressed that the intervention does not attract any charges beyond the officially approved passport fees.
“It is, therefore, necessary to clarify that this process does not come with extra costs different from the official fees of $150 and $230 for five-year and ten-year validity passports respectively, exclusive of bank charges,” the statement said.
The Minister’s clarification follows reports and concerns over alleged additional payments being requested from Nigerians seeking to benefit from the special passport intervention exercise in the UK.
The Federal Government has therefore reiterated that applicants are only required to pay the applicable official passport fees, alongside any relevant bank charges.
