Tragedy as NYSC prospective corps member dies

A prospective National Youth Service Corps member lost their life in a tragic road accident while traveling to the orientation camp in Ebonyi State’s Afikpo Local Government Area, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

A fatal accident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m. on the Amasiri-Okigwe Road, specifically in Amenu village, Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area, involving a 14-seater Toyota commercial bus carrying 12 prospective corps members to their NYSC destination.

According to Mr. Henry Igwe, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ebonyi, a crash occurred involving a commercial bus and a Mercedes Benz tipper, which he attributed to the bus driver’s potential speeding.

“From our preliminary findings, speeding appears to have been a factor in the collision. The identities of the injured victims are yet to be confirmed, as they were rescued by bystanders before our team arrived,” Igwe said.

The injured passengers were taken to the David Umahi Federal Hospital in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, and are said to be in stable condition.
