President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to various countries and international missions, including the United Nations, marking a major diplomatic reshuffle.
The list, released on Friday by the presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, shows that 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors have been assigned to different countries around the world.
The ambassadors-designate were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December last year.
Among the notable appointments, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, has been posted as Nigeria’s ambassador to Qatar.
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, was appointed ambassador to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri was posted to Mexico.
Also on the list, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, was appointed ambassador to China, while former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was posted to Spain.
The postings form part of the administration’s effort to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence across strategic countries and international organisations.
A full list of the ambassadors and their respective missions was also released alongside the announcement.
