Suspended Kogi Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan has taken her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the international level, requesting assistance from global democratic institutions.
At the Inter-Parliamentary Union Meeting in New York, Senator Natasha addressed the Women in Parliament session at the United Nations, condemning her suspension from the Senate.
In her speech, she expressed concerns about her safety, alleging that she might be detained against her will in New York by forces she described as ‘the powers that be’ from Nigeria, and her suspension from the Senate has sparked widespread debate, especially given her accusations against Senate President Akpabio, which has brought renewed attention to how sexual harassment allegations are handled within Nigeria’s political landscape, and as the controversy unfolds, global institutions, including the IPU, are under scrutiny for how they will respond to her call for justice and democratic accountability.
