Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, has stripped six traditional chiefs of their titles for attending a Labour Party campaign event in Apapa without his permission.
The monarch alleged that the chiefs breached palace protocol and impersonated him at the political gathering, leading to the dethronement of Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).
Following a palace meeting on Monday, the action was taken after Oba Oyegbemi deemed their behavior unacceptable and a dereliction of their duties as his representatives.
A statement released after the meeting said:
“Following the outcome of this event, which unfolded without his prior knowledge, Kabiyesi Ojora summoned the Bales, Balogun, and the Ojora Council to his ancient palace for clarification.
With a tone of disappointment and authority, Kabiyesi declared that the Chiefs had failed to fulfill their duties. He emphasized that no Chief should take decisions or act on his behalf without his explicit approval, as they are all representatives of him and custodians of the land’s traditions.”
