Senator Ben Murray-Bruce Defects to APC

Former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The media entrepreneur and founder of Silverbird Group announced his defection on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, citing the need to align with a party that “shares his vision for national development and economic innovation.”

Murray-Bruce, popularly known as the “Common Sense Senator” for his advocacy of progressive governance during his time in the Senate, was a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he served from 2015 to 2019.

In his statement, he expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him a platform to serve Nigerians but noted that it was time to “join hands with like-minded progressives” in driving the country toward sustainable growth.

The defection, which took place in Abuja, was witnessed by top APC leaders, including the National Chairman and several members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Political observers say Murray-Bruce’s move is significant, coming at a time when the ruling party is intensifying efforts to strengthen its base across the South-South region ahead of future elections.

His entrance into the APC is expected to boost the party’s media and communication strategy, given his influence in the entertainment and broadcast industry.
