Veteran Nigerian actor and academic, Dr. Kola Oyewo, widely celebrated for his iconic role in the classic Yoruba political drama Saworo Ide, has passed away, SavannahNewnow Reports.
The announcement was made by his son, Toyese Oyewo, who shared the heartbreaking news in a statement on social media.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved father, Adekola Akangbe Gabriel Oyewo. He was a wonderful man whose love, wisdom, strength and kindness touched the lives of many,” Toyese wrote.
He described his father as a man whose impact extended beyond his family, noting that his legacy would continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him and through the many lives he influenced.
“While we grieve this great loss, we are grateful to God for the gift of his life, the memories we shared, and the legacy he leaves behind,” the statement added.
The family has appealed for prayers, comfort and support as they mourn his passing and celebrate a life marked by excellence, service and dedication to the arts.
Dr. Oyewo was a respected figure in Nigeria’s theatre and film industry, earning admiration for his contributions to stage and screen, particularly through his memorable performance in Saworo Ide.
