The Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, has emphasized the need for a knowledge-driven economy to drive Nigeria’s development, stressing that technology and entrepreneurship are crucial factors, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
He made this call during the Education and Career Conference organized by the Career Service Centre in conjunction with GIGS, urging students to focus on innovation and entrepreneurship to become employers of labour.
The conference-themed ‘International Exposure and Opportunities’ aims to equip students with skills and resources for the evolving workforce.
Mr Adegun highlighted the significance of innovation and entrepreneurship among students, encouraging them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
He emphasized the government’s role in supporting creativity and innovation to stimulate economic growth, beyond just promoting small-scale businesses.
Also speaking, Abiodun Ogunduboye, Coordinator of the Career Service Centre, outlined the institution’s focus on equipping students with strategic skills, potential, and resourcefulness to become future employers.
Sponsored by TETFund, the centre aims to guide students in identifying their career paths and provide resources for growth, offering services such as career exploration, professional branding, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Ogunduboye urged students to collaborate with the centre’s vision to deliver impactful mandates through their chosen careers, with the GIGS announcing its commitment to cover the tuition fee of the most outstanding participant.
