Reps to Debate Kanu’s Health as Abia Assembly Plans Rally for His Release

The House of Representatives is set to deliberate on a motion this week seeking urgent medical attention for detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The move follows concerns raised by Abia lawmaker Obi Aguocha, who lamented the federal government’s silence over Kanu’s worsening health condition. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu assured that the motion would be properly presented for consideration.

Meanwhile, the Abia State House of Assembly has announced plans for a peaceful rally in Abuja to demand Kanu’s release on medical grounds. Lawmakers in Umuahia, led by Deputy Speaker Austin Mmeregini, called on Governor Alex Otti, South-East legislators, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo to sustain pressure for his freedom.

Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa decried the Federal Government’s continued detention of Kanu despite court orders for his release, urging President Tinubu to show mercy. The Assembly also condemned attacks on Igbo residents in Lagos, calling for federal intervention to restore peace and protect lives and property.
