Reinstated Edo deputy Gov, Philip Shaibu resumes duties amidst controversy

Comrade Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has announced his resumption following a Federal High Court judgment that nullified his impeachment, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS. 

Shuaibu, in a video through his official X page instructed his staff, who had yet to resume work, to the needful immediately or face the consequences.

The reinstated Deputy Governor warned anyone including financial institutions against having transactions with the Office of the Deputy Governor without his permission

Shaibu emphasized that his resumption was in strict adherence to the constitution. “In adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I announce my official resumption to office,” he stated in the video. He further highlighted that the court’s judgment underscored the fact that his office had never been vacant.

Reacting, Governor Obaseki warned the citizens of the State to stop taking Shaibu seriously, stressing that Shaibu was impersonating the Deputy Governor.

In a statement issued and signed by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare warned organizations to ignore any correspondence from Shaibu.

Nehikhare clarified that the legal challenge regarding Shaibu’s reinstatement was still pending, with the next court hearing scheduled for September 24, 2024. He maintained that Omobayo Marvelous Godwins is the current Deputy Governor of Edo State, and any actions taken by Shaibu are considered acts of impersonation.

The state government also alerted security agencies to potential breaches of peace and urged them to hold Shaibu accountable for any disturbances.

In response, Shaibu’s media office reiterated that the court had resolved the impeachment issue, declaring the actions of the State House of Assembly and the state government as illegal, null, and void.
