Qatar has introduced a new restriction affecting Nigerian travelers, barring men under the age of 40 from entering the country alone, whether for visits or on transit visas.
According to reports, the directive was quietly rolled out in recent weeks and has already begun impacting Nigerian passport holders. Several travel agencies confirmed they have received notifications from Qatari authorities, stating that single male travelers from Nigeria will no longer be granted entry or transit clearance unless accompanied by family or traveling in groups.
The move has raised concerns among Nigerians who frequently pass through Doha, a major international hub, especially for those connecting flights to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Many fear the measure could complicate travel plans and increase costs, as affected travelers may need to alter itineraries or book with alternative airlines.
Qatar has not issued an official statement explaining the rationale behind the restriction. However, analysts suggest it may be tied to tightening immigration controls or efforts to curb overstays, a challenge faced by several Gulf countries.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is yet to comment on the development, but travel operators are urging passengers to verify requirements before booking trips involving Qatar Airways or stopovers in Doha.
