Prison break : Nigerian govt releases identities of fleeing inmates

Federal government has revealed the identities of 69 inmates who escaped from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre in Niger State, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW NEWSNOW.

The inmates escaped from the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre eleven (11) weeks ago.

On the night of April 24, 2024, a total of 119 inmates broke free from the facility when a heavy rainstorm caused the perimeter wall to collapse.

A day after the incident, the Nigeria Correctional Service(NCoS) released a press statement through its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Umar, detailing the ugly incident.

The NCoS has made the names and photographs of the escapees public to aid in their recapture. The decision to release this information was made in collaboration with security agencies to encourage vigilance from the public.

Umar emphasized the importance of public cooperation in locating and returning the escapees, who are considered a threat to public safety and national security.

In the statement, Abubakar Umar also stressed that the Correctional Service has implemented both visible and covert measures to capture the fugitives.

Anyone with information on the escapees is urged to contact the nearest security agency.
