President Bola Tinubu has made it known to the public why the former Central Bank Governor (CBN), Godwin Emefiele was suspended and arrested by Department of State Service (DSS)
This was made known in an interactive engagement with Nigerian residing in France and neighboring countries on Friday.
Tinubu elucidate on the matter, highlighting the deep-rooted issues within the financial system during Emefiele’s tenure.
He emphasized that the existence of multiple exchange rates had created obstacles for Nigerians living abroad, preventing them from easily sending money to their parents and relatives.
However, the President assured the audience that such difficulties have now been resolved.
In his words:“Then the financial system was rotten. Few people made bags of money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows. But that is gone now. It’s gone.
“The man is in the hands of the authorities. Something is being done about that. They will sort themselves out.”
Blueprint had reported that Emefiele was suspended by Tinubu on June 9, 2023, and is currently at the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
