President Tinubu signs bill establishing new federal varsities in Osun, Ekiti

President Bola Tinubu gave his assent to two separate bills establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State on Thursday in Abuja.

According to a statement released by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Thursday, President Tinubu stated that these specialized institutions will cater to the educational needs of the public, drive research and innovation, and contribute to the country’s overall economic growth and development.

Nigeria has a total of 63 approved federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities, according to the National Universities Commission.

The President has approved the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Rivers State and the takeover of a private university in Southern Kaduna for conversion into a federal university.
