The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially affirmed Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal. The decision was reached during the NWC’s meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
In a statement released by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC disclosed that it had thoroughly reviewed relevant legal documents, including the declaratory judgment of the High Court of Enugu and the Court of Appeal’s ruling in the Enugu Division. The committee also considered legal opinions from Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Dr. Kabiru T. Turaki and the party’s National Legal Adviser.
After examining the materials, the NWC “overwhelmingly recognizes, acknowledges, and confirms” Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary, aligning with the Court of Appeal’s decision.
Following this resolution, the party has begun notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies to ensure official recognition of Udeh-Okoye’s position. The PDP also commended its leaders, members, and stakeholders for their loyalty and commitment to upholding the rule of law.
This confirmation marks a significant step toward stabilizing the party, which has faced internal challenges since the 2023 elections. The decision is expected to contribute to the resolution of ongoing disputes within the PDP.
