A group identified as Concerned Ondo State Indigenous Residents in Lagos State has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling for an independent investigation into alleged mismanagement and diversion of security vote and other public funds under the administration of Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The petition, dated July 28, 2026, was addressed to the Executive Chairman of the EFCC in Abuja, with copies forwarded to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Public Complaints Commission.
The petitioners, represented by Steve Victor, alleged that approximately ₦3 billion in security vote and other public funds may have been mismanaged between February 2024 and July 2026. They urged anti-graft agencies to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the allegations in the interest of transparency and accountability.
According to the petition, the group requested the EFCC to carry out a comprehensive review of the disbursement and utilization of the state’s security vote during the period under review. They also called for a forensic audit of financial records, approvals and expenditures linked to security votes and related contingency funds.
The petition further urged investigators to examine contracts allegedly awarded under security and logistics, particularly those that may not have complied with due process and competitive bidding requirements.
Additionally, the petitioners requested an investigation into allegations of diversion of funds meant for Local governments, security equipment, personnel allowances, and community safety initiatives. They also asked the commission to verify compliance with the Public Procurement Act and other financial regulations governing public expenditure.
The group further appealed to the EFCC to identify and prosecute any public officials, agencies, or third parties found culpable of financial mismanagement or corruption following the investigation.
They also requested that the findings of the investigation be made public, alongside recommendations aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and public confidence in governance.
In the petition, the group stated that the request was submitted in good faith and in accordance with Section 6 of the EFCC Act, 2004, and Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which they said support transparency and accountability in public office.
