Ondo Polytechnic Workers Begin Five-Day Protest Over Minimum Wage
Workers at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, have commenced a five-day protest to press for the implementation of the new national minimum wage, following what they describe as prolonged neglect by authorities, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic chapter, on Monday converged at the institution’s main gate in Owo, Ondo State, protesting the continued payment of ₦18,000 as minimum wage.
The protesters demanded the immediate implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2024, insisting that workers in the polytechnic should not be excluded from the policy.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the staff vowed to sustain the protest throughout the five-day period unless their demands are met, warning that further industrial actions could follow if the situation remains unresolved.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic had yet to issue an official response to the protest.
