The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a violent altercation in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the arrest, explaining that the tragic incident occurred after the victim demanded the refund of ₦100,000 she had earlier lent to the suspect.
According to the statement, the case was first reported by Mrs. Ngozi Gregory, a 45-year-old woman, at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters. Preliminary investigation revealed that a heated argument ensued between Ademola and Joy over the debt, during which the suspect descended on her with repeated blows until she lost consciousness.
“The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was unfortunately confirmed dead on arrival by a medical practitioner,” the police spokesperson said.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Idanre Division swiftly mobilized a team of detectives to the scene, leading to the prompt arrest of the suspect. The remains of the deceased have since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has condemned the brutal act, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable.” He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased and her family, stressing that violence in any form will not be condoned.
“The Commissioner has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a thorough and discreet investigation,” the statement added.
Lawal further assured the public that the Command will pursue the case to a logical conclusion and ensure that the perpetrator faces the full weight of the law.
