A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Ilaje Constituency II, Hon. Dr. Olawunmi Fayemi-Obayelu, has levelled serious allegations against the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, accusing him of embezzlement, bribery, forgery, corruption, abuse of office and attempting to intimidate her over ongoing investigations, SavannahNewnow has learnt.
In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, the lawmaker claimed she had received several threatening calls warning her to discontinue what she described as an investigation into alleged bribery, forgery and corrupt dealings involving the Speaker and the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
Fayemi-Obayelu further alleged that she narrowly escaped an attempt on her life, although she did not provide details of the incident or identify those allegedly responsible.
Addressing the Speaker directly, the lawmaker accused him of trying to silence her because of his perceived belief that she was central to the challenges confronting his leadership within the House.
She alleged that the Speaker had abused his office, describing him as hypocritical and claiming he had failed to provide transparent leadership in the Assembly.
The Ilaje lawmaker also recalled her role during a previous impeachment crisis in the Ondo State House of Assembly, stating that she was the only female member of the “Integrity Group (G11)” that resisted what she described as injustice at the time.
According to her, no amount of intimidation or threats would deter her from exposing what she alleged were fraudulent activities within the 10th Ondo State House of Assembly.
Fayemi-Obayelu also accused the Speaker and unnamed officials of conspiring to divert funds meant for the development of Ilaje communities through OSOPADEC, insisting that the people of the oil-producing area would not continue to suffer while public resources were allegedly mismanaged.
She declared that she would no longer remain silent out of respect for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, adding that she would defend both her life and the legacy of her late father.
The lawmaker further claimed that two-thirds of the members of the House had resolved that the Speaker should either resign or face the consequences of his actions, ending her statement with the declaration, “No going back.”
As of the time of filing this report, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, had not publicly responded to the allegations. Similarly, OSOPADEC had not issued any statement regarding the claims.
The allegations remain unproven and there is no official confirmation from law enforcement or other relevant authorities regarding the alleged assassination attempt or the corruption claims.
