The Ondo State Government has expressed serious concern over the recent commando-style operations allegedly carried out by officers of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in parts of the state, warning that such actions are causing fear and anxiety among residents, SavannahNewnow Reports.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Idowu Ajanaku, the government acknowledged the constitutional responsibility of security agencies to investigate crimes and maintain law and order.
However, it stressed that security operations must be conducted in line with established procedures and with adequate consideration for public safety and confidence.
According to the government, the manner in which the operations were carried out has created unnecessary panic among law-abiding citizens and disrupted the peaceful atmosphere for which Ondo State is known.
The state government therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to take necessary steps to regulate the activities of specialized police units operating within the state and ensure strict adherence to due process during security operations.
The statement further noted that whenever actionable intelligence is available, appropriate communication and coordination with relevant state authorities should be activated to prevent avoidable tension and misunderstanding among the populace.
While reaffirming its support for legitimate security operations aimed at protecting lives and combating crime, the government emphasized that such exercises must be carried out professionally, responsibly, and in accordance with established operational standards that inspire public confidence rather than fear.
The Ondo State Government also assured residents of its continued commitment to their safety and wellbeing, urging them to remain calm and go about their lawful activities while it engages relevant security authorities to ensure that security operations are conducted in a manner that respects due process and preserves public peace.
