Ondo Assembly Members Pledge Support for President Tinubu, Join GMT

At least nine Ondo State House of Assembly members, led by former Deputy Speaker Abayomi Akinruntan, have joined the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, indicating growing support in the state.

Assembly members joined an existing group to mobilize support for President Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.

Others include the Deputy Majority Leader and representative of Idanre Constituency, Hon. (Princess) Ogunlowo Oluwatosin Ajirotu, Hon. Afe Felix (Akoko North West II), Hon. Ifabiyi Samuel Olatunde (Odigbo Constituency 1), Hon. Akinsunroju Akindolani Nelson (Ile Oluji/Oke-Igbo), Hon. Bolaji Fatai Atere (Akoko North West Constituency 1), Hon. Oluwatoyin Victor Japhet (Akoko North East), Hon. Kolawole Michael Ologede (Akure North) and Hon. ( Mrs) Morenike Witherspoon (Owo Constituency II).

Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, the GMT State Director-General, announced this during a media briefing in Akure on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting with lawmakers.

He stated that Assembly members are now part of both the State Advisory Committee and the State Executive Committee of GMT.

Yusuf-Ogunleye instructed local government coordinators to collaborate closely with lawmakers, ensuring that activities at the grassroots level are properly aligned.

Additionally, he announced the appointment of Dr. Akin Awodeyi Apata to the State Advisory Committee of GMT and Engr. Sogo Ajikiola as the new Ifedore local government coordinator.

In his words:“We are expecting a visit from the National Executive Committee members of GMT in Ondo State very soon,” he stated.

“During the visit, the national officers will meet with the State Advisory and Executive Committees as well as the newly inducted lawmakers. They will also inaugurate state officers and formally commission the GMT state office,” he added.

Yusuf-Ogunleye urged fellow lawmakers and political officeholders to join the movement, emphasizing the need to rally support for President Tinubu at all levels.

He said: “We appreciate the backing from the APC State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, and commend the generous financial support from the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

“To those opposing our movement, we urge a change of heart. GMT is committed to promoting the ideals of President Tinubu and deepening grassroots engagement.”

The DG also urged market women, supporters of the party and friends of President Tinubu, regardless of their political affiliations, to join the movement and report any threats to its leadership, emphasizing that the group’s activities are within the constitutional bounds of freedom of association.
