The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has elected former member of the House of Representatives, Babatunde Kolawole, as the new State Chairman of the party, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Kolawole emerged at a congress organised by the faction of the party loyal to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The exercise took place at the The Dome Event Centre in Akure, where party delegates and stakeholders converged to elect new state executives.
The congress, which was conducted under tight security, saw the emergence of other members of the State Executive Committee alongside Kolawole. Party officials at the venue described the process as peaceful and in compliance with the party’s constitution.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Kolawole pledged to foster unity within the party and strengthen its structure across the 18 local government areas of the state.
He assured members that his leadership would focus on reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of future political engagements.
The development comes amid internal disagreements within the Ondo APC, with rival tendencies laying claim to the legitimacy of party structures in the state.
However, the faction aligned with Governor Aiyedatiwa insists that the congress was properly convened and reflected the will of party members.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official reaction from opposing factions within the party regarding the outcome of the exercise.
