A coalition of youth groups marched in solidarity on Friday for Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, an aspirant seeking the Ondo State governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner in 2024 elections.
Youths across the political spectrum assembled in demonstration organized by Director General Hon. Bosede Salami Agbaje, former House of Assembly aspirant. Converging at the Cathedral, the procession snaked through Oja Oba market to the PDP headquarters in Akure province.
“We fully support Akingboye’s ambitious aim to confront the immense problems plaguing our state,” remarked Agbaje. She insisted the aspirant has the capability to address everything from hunger and unemployment to instability.
Agbaje’s position resonated with National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) director Dipo Falobi. He argued Akingboye has already proven his intention to further youth interests if elected next November.
As the PDP selection edges closer, Friday’s high-energy showing underscored Akingboye’s surging popularity amongst young voters in the region. With students and youth group leaders coalescing behind his candidacy, Otunba hopes to claim the party’s nomination and the governor’s office.
The peaceful demonstration highlighted both the challenges confronting Nigerian youth and their growing political engagement to drive change.
