The Senate has approved N1.8 trillion for the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s 2025 statutory budget, following the presentation of the Committee on FCT’s report by Sen. Bomai Ibrahim at plenary on Wednesday, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Ibrahim’s report indicated that a meeting was held between the Senate, the House Committee on FCT, the minister, and FCT administration officials to discuss the appropriation bill.
The breakdown of the budget, according to him, includes a personnel cost of N106 billion, overhead of N352 billion, with a total recurrent expenditure of N502 billion proposed, while N1.3 trillion is proposed for capital expenditure.
Furthermore, personnel costs account for 8.29% of the budget, while total recurrent expenditure and total capital expenditure account for 27.69% and 72.31%, respectively.
He stated that 85% of the capital, which accounted for 72.31% of the total, was allocated to ongoing projects, leaving only 50% for new projects. He added that the ideal budget framework typically consists of 70% for capital and 30% for recurrent expenditures.
He commended that the FCT budget allocates 72.32 percent for capital expenditures and 27.69 percent for overhead costs.
“This shows that the structure of the budget is in conformity with the best practice,” he said.
Senator Barau Jibrin, APC-Kano, commended the FCTA leadership for its efforts, urging the Senate to support the FCT minister and his team in improving infrastructure development by approving the budget.
The Senate subsequently passed the 2025 FCTA Statutory Appropriation Bill.
