This decision, announced on January 20, 2025, follows a period of unchanged telecom tariffs since 2013, despite the increasing financial strain on service providers.
The Nigerian Communications Commission has announced that it will implement a tariff adjustment, capping it at 50% of current tariffs, significantly lower than the over 100% hike initially proposed by some network operators.
The adjustments will be regulated within the tariff bands outlined in the 2013 NCC Cost Study, ensuring compliance with the 2024 Tariff Simplification Guidance.
The NCC emphasized that these changes aim to balance consumer protection with industry sustainability, enabling operators to invest in infrastructure and technological innovation, and ultimately benefiting consumers with improved network quality, enhanced customer service, and broader connectivity.
