The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a warehouse in Lagos containing banned, counterfeit, and unregistered cosmetic products valued at over N3 billion.
The discovery, announced in a statement posted on the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, was made at the APT Trade Fair Complex, where the products were hidden inside an uncompleted building.
Items recovered during the operation include 728 cartons of Crusader soap, 718 cartons of E45 soap, and quantities of Extract Gold whitening soaps, products said to be banned by the Federal Government. They also found assorted perfumes, body oils, and cooking oils, which have been placed on hold pending further regulatory evaluation.
NAFDAC confirmed that all seized goods have been evacuated to prevent their distribution, while the warehouse manager has been invited for questioning as investigations continue.
The agency reiterated that the sale and use of banned and substandard cosmetics pose serious health risks and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
