Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered all civil and public servants in the state to wear traditional attire with ‘Aso Oke’ every Thursday, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
The Oyo State government has introduced a policy aimed at preserving Yoruba culture and boosting the local economy, with a directive that all state officials wear traditional attire, including aso oke, a handwoven fabric deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition, every Thursday.
“This initiative sustains livelihoods, reduces unemployment, and increases income streams for artisans,” the circular stated.
The government expects the growing demand for aso oke to drive growth in the informal sector, increase tourism, and foster inclusive development.
“This policy is not just about dressing; it’s a strategic effort to validate our cultural identity while uplifting grassroots economies.
“Every Thursday and Friday, our workforce will become ambassadors of tradition and catalysts for economic transformation,” the circular added.
