Major Ibadan roads to be shut ahead of Ladoja’s coronation
The organising committee for the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has announced that some key routes leading to the historic Mapo Hall will be closed to traffic on Friday.
The Oyo State Government had earlier confirmed that Oba Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, will be crowned on September 26, 2025.
In a traffic advisory issued on Tuesday, the security sub-committee, operating under the general committee chaired by former CCII President, Chief Bayo Oyero, explained that the restrictions are necessary due to the planned attendance of President Bola Tinubu at the coronation.
According to the advisory, the affected routes will be shut by 7:00 am on Friday. The roads to be closed include Beere Junction inward Mapo Hall; Born Photo Junction inward Oja’ba; Idi-Arere Junction inward Oja’ba; and Itamerin Junction inward Mapo Hall.
To ease movement, the committee has designated three official car parks within the city: Ibadan North Local Government’s car park in front of the Immigration Office, Agodi; a football field beside Yemetu Police Station; and Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado. Shuttle buses will be available to convey guests with valid invitation cards from the car parks to Mapo Hall.
Vendors and food suppliers have been advised to arrive at the venue between 6:00 am and 6:45 am, before the closures take effect.
The committee also clarified that only the convoys of the President and the Governor will be allowed unrestricted access to the restricted routes.
The coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, with Mapo Hall once again set to play host to a historic moment in Ibadanland.
