Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, is set to face a 19-count charge of alleged N80.2 billion fraud at the Federal High Court in Abuja, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
He will be arraigned alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, and two others, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu, before Justice Emeka Nwite on Thursday.
This follows Justice Nwite’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Bello on April 17, due to his consistent failure to appear in court for his arraignment.
After evading capture for months, Bello turned himself in to the anti-corruption agency on Tuesday and was subsequently brought before the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Wednesday.
Following his not guilty plea, Justice Maryanne Anenih ordered his detention under the EFCC’s custody. Initially, the Federal High Court case was set for January 21, 2025, but the anti-corruption agency successfully requested an earlier date from Justice Nwite.
