A tragic fire incident in Ibadan’s New Garage area claimed the lives of a petrol tanker driver and his motor boy in the early hours of Tuesday, March 4, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
A fire broke out near a Total filling station along Akala Express, Oluyole Local Government Area, with emergency responders receiving a distress call at 5:15 a.m. and quickly arriving at the scene, according to Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.
“We got information about the fire outbreak at GABSTAB Mega Petrol Station, Orita Challenge, and immediately deployed our team. Unfortunately, the tanker driver and his motor boy were burnt to death,” Akinyinka said.
Although the fire has been brought under control, authorities are still probing the events leading up to the incident.
According to Abdulsalam Abolaji, an eyewitness and staff member of Seven Up Bottling Company in Ibadan, the fire damaged parts of the Total filling station, resulting in the closure of one lane of the road.
“I witnessed the incidence while coming to work this morning”— Abdulsalam said.
