JUST IN: IGP Disu Orders Seizure of Vehicles Without Number Plates Amid Rising Security Concerns

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Disu, has directed police commands across the country to intensify enforcement against vehicles operating without valid number plates, ordering the immediate seizure of such vehicles as part of efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

According to the directive, all police formations and officers have been instructed to identify, stop and impound vehicles found plying roads without official registration numbers or with obscured, defaced, or suspicious number plates.

The move is aimed at improving vehicle traceability and enhancing the ability of security agencies to track criminal suspects.

The IGP noted that the increasing use of unregistered vehicles by kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal elements has become a major security concern.

He stressed that allowing vehicles without proper identification to operate freely poses significant challenges to law enforcement agencies investigating crimes and responding to security threats.

Police authorities stated that the enforcement exercise will be carried out nationwide and urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and display authentic number plates at all times.

Vehicle owners were also warned against using fake, altered, or concealed registration numbers, as offenders would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The police leadership assured members of the public that the operation is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but to improve public safety and strengthen efforts to combat insecurity across the country.
