Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has hinted at a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “spoilt plane” that may no longer be able to take him to his political destination beyond 2027, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Pastor Eno has expressed deep concerns over the fragmentation and instability within the PDP, amid a wave of high-profile defections, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dramatic move to the APC.
The governor noted that the PDP, once a powerful political force, is losing its structure and direction, potentially affecting its viability as a platform for ambitious leaders. He hinted that he may soon join the political fray as the 2027 election year approaches.
“If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?” Eno queried.
The governor urged the people to stand by his administration as it works to fulfill its campaign promises, and provided empowerment support to over 400 individuals, including business grants, cars, and other incentives.
Meanwhile, 154 constituents received Traders Grants, 116 got Farmers Grants, four beneficiaries were awarded N5 million each under the MSME Grant, and 131 received support through the Equipment Support Initiative.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the resources wisely and warned them against investing in ponzi schemes or other unauthorized purposes.
He said: “We need to meet with the people from time to time to see them. It’s not only during elections that we should come to see our people. We also have to come and see you in the course of governance, to check your wellbeing, to listen to you, tell you what we have done, and what we are planning to do.
