JUNE 12: IBB should be prosecuted for subverting the Constitution, people’s will— Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to officially declare the results of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election between the Social Democratic Party and National Republic Convention candidates and proclaim the winner, following Gen. Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s confession and admission, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.

Omo’ba Adesanya, the All Progressives Congress chieftain and a former Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Independent Electoral Commission to announce the June 12 election results and prosecute General Ibrahim Babangida.

In his statement: “Although it may seem overdue, justice is never outdated, which is why it is necessary to announce the results of the most peaceful, free, and fair presidential election in Nigeria’s electoral history, an election that was unjustly annulled by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida without reason, just as the then Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, was about to declare the winner between Moshood Abiola of SDP and Bashir Tofa of NRC.

“The annulment of the election triggered a major national crisis, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives and prompting prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and others, to flee into exile for their safety, which in turn fueled the ‘military must go’ agitation.

“Since government is continuum and the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election results are still available in the custody of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), therefore, as a matter of priority, we call on Present Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to direct the Chairman of INEC to officially announce the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election results from each State, declare the winner and return the winner elected as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with all the rights and privileges of President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria respectively.

“It is also pertinent that, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida be prosecuted for illegally and criminally subverting the Nigerian Constitution and the people’s will for the annulment June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, globally adjudged to be the most peaceful, freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history till date.”

“If we must grow as a Nation, we need to correct our past deeds, and there must be consequences for our actions and inactions to serve as deterrent to others”

“As a Youth Leader of SDP at that time, Nigerians and the world will know the total number of votes cast. Hence, the labour of our heroes past will not be in vain, and those who lost their lives in the struggle will rejoice in their grave that posterity is kind to them”.
