The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen for reportedly traveling outside the nation without asking authorization from the state executive or legislative.
Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa LGA, Hon Rufai Sunusi of Gumel LGA, and Hon Umar Baffa of Yankwashi LGA, who was believed to have traveled to Ruwanda, were among the suspended chairmen.
The House made the decision after the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, proposed a move to suspend the affected council chairs.
He narrated that prior to their travelling, the House had given an order for the local government council chairmen in the state to not travel anywhere due to the preparation of 2024 state appropriation bill and its presentation to the Assembly by the state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi.
Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination, nonchalant attitude to the primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punish according to the law.
The members representing Malam Madori Constituency, Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura, and member representing Guri Hon Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut.
The House then unanimously approved the suspension of the three local government chairmen and directed their vice to take over.
However the House constituted committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter and reported back to the House within four weeks for further action.
