Ijaw Youth Council Elects New President, Executives

The Ijaw Youth Council, has elected new president and Executive members.

In an election conducted in the IYC Central Zone, Tari Theophilus was announced winner of the election.

Savannah News gathered that face-off with other group over the conduct of the electoral process has seen some prominent members reject the election.

The process begins peacefully with the influx of delegates and other key players into the Ijaw House in Yenagoa.

The election is Ninth Executive Council election of the Ijaw Youth Council.

The election declared open by the immediate past President, Peter Igbifa, soon turns violence as argument over the reconciliation of the delegates lists forces some strong members to abandon the process.

Shortly after emerging victorious at the election conducted and supervised by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, at another location, the new Exco are conducting their maiden press briefing led by the new President, Tari Theophilus.

However, some candidates are already preparing for another election as declared by Congress and distance themselves from the process as of the time of filling this report.

Another election date has been fixed for the 22nd of July by the aggrieved members.
