Residents of Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, have raised the alarm over a foul odour and dirty water in their community, more than one week after a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crashed in the area.
The residents expressed fears that the situation could trigger a disease outbreak if urgent steps are not taken to remove the wreckage and remains, clean the affected area and provide access to safe drinking water.
They lamented the potential health risks posed by the lingering aftermath of the crash, calling on the Federal Government, the Ondo State Government and the Nigerian Air Force to intervene without further delay.
The affected residents appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough cleanup of the crash site and its surroundings to prevent possible contamination of local water sources and protect public health.
They also urged the government to provide clean and safe drinking water for residents pending the completion of the necessary environmental sanitation and remedial measures.
The community called for swift and coordinated action by the relevant authorities, warning that further delays could worsen the situation and expose residents to avoidable health hazards.
The residents stressed that their immediate concerns were the removal of the aircraft’s remains, the restoration of environmental cleanliness and the provision of potable water to safeguard lives and livelihoods in Igbokoda.
