Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, recently visited Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, at his Abuja residence in a bid to mend fences.
The visit came just days after Mr Fubara’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London, where they discussed the ongoing political dispute with Mr Wike that led to Mr Tinubu imposing emergency rule in Rivers, suspending Mr Fubara and other elected officials for an initial six months.
Sources told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr Fubara was accompanied to Mr Wike’s residence by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun.
“Fubara was brought to the minister’s house on Friday, 18 April. He prostrated for Wike while holding his legs and calling him, ‘My Oga’,” one of the sources said.
“He was in Wike’s house till the wee hours of Saturday, 19 April,” the source added.
The outcome of the meeting remains a secret, as those with knowledge of it have declined to comment.
However, it is understood that Mr Fubara was instructed to gather his supporters in Rivers, particularly the elders, and inform them of the “truth” regarding his dispute with Mr Wike.
Mr. Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, confirmed that the meeting took place, but he was not aware of the discussions while Nelson Chukwudi, a spokesperson for Suspended Governor Fubara, declined to comment, directing inquiries to the commissioner for information.
