Nigerian chef and culinary sensation Hilda Baci is set to embark on another bold record-breaking attempt, this time aiming to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after her Guinness World Record cook-a-thon captured widespread attention, is turning her focus to one of West Africa’s most iconic dishes. The event is scheduled to kick off this weekend in Lagos, where thousands of food lovers and supporters are expected to gather to witness the feat.
The chef announced the attempt earlier this week, saying it is not only about breaking records but also about celebrating African cuisine on the global stage. “Jollof rice is more than just food – it’s culture, pride, and identity,” Baci said. “I want the world to see the power of our food in bringing people together.”
Organizers say the pot, designed to hold several tonnes of rice, will require industrial-scale cooking equipment and the coordination of a large culinary team. Portions of the dish will be distributed to attendees, while surplus servings are expected to be donated to local charities and food banks.
