His Royal Highness Shagari Ebije’ego Job, the traditional chief (Onu) of Itama in Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area, has been killed by suspected gunmen at his residence.
The attack occurred on Monday evening when heavily armed assailants followed the monarch to his home and opened fire, resulting in his immediate death.
According to Daily Trust, the gunmen drove aggressively into the town late at night and went directly to the chief’s residence. Residents reported that the assailants arrived around 9 PM, and the area was soon filled with gunfire. “We heard gunshots and people scattered for safety,” said Adukwu Ajibili, a local resident. “When the gunfire ceased and the attackers had left, we found that His Royal Highness had been killed.”
The brutal attack has caused widespread panic in the town, leading many residents to flee to nearby villages to avoid further violence. As of now, SP Williams Aya, the Public Relations Officer for the Kogi State Police Command, has not provided a comment on the incident.
