The Ondo Redemption Front, a civic group committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance in Ondo State, has called for immediate investigation of Governor Akeredolu over his prolonged absence from office.
The group in press statement co-signed by its Chairman Ologun Ayodeji, and the secretary Olufemi Lawson deeply concerned about the prolonged absence of the state Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, from the State.
In the statement, the group claimed it has been over four months since the Governor last performed his official duties.
The group added that the citizens of Ondo State deserve to know the true nature of his sickness and most importantly, his capacity to continue to act, as the Executive Governor of our dear State.
Savannah Newsnow had earlier reported that Governor Akeredolu returned from an overseas medical vacation, where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.
The group frowned that Governor Akeredolu has not resumed office, in the State, neither has he deemed it necessary, to address the people of the State days after his return.
The statement partly: “We believe that transparency in matters of public interest is a fundamental principle of democracy. The continued invisibility of Governor in the state, has raised legitimate questions and concerns among the people of Ondo State. While we respect the privacy of individuals, especially in matters related to health, it is essential that the citizens are informed about the condition of their elected leader, given the significant implications it has on governance and public administration.
“Therefore, the Ondo Redemption Front demands the immediate constitution of a medical board to investigate and disclose the true nature of the Governor’s illness. This medical board should comprise qualified medical professionals and experts who can provide an impartial assessment of the Governor’s health status. Their findings should be made public to reassure the citizens and put to rest any speculation or misinformation.
“We understand the importance of empathy and respect for the Governor’s privacy during this time, but it is equally important to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability in the governance of our state. The people of Ondo State have a right to know the condition of their elected leader and the timeline for his return to office.
“The Ondo Redemption Front remains committed to ensuring that the interests of the people of Ondo State are protected and that our state continues to thrive under effective and accountable leadership. We call on the Ondo State House of Assembly to act swiftly in the best interest of our democracy and our citizens by constituting the medical board without delay.
The group urged all stakeholders, including Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, civil society organizations, the media, and the international community, to support our call for transparency and accountability in Ondo State. Together, we can ensure that the principles of democracy are upheld and that the people of Ondo State receive the information they deserve.
