The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued an official statement on the case of Martins Innocent Otse, also known as Very Dark Man.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that Martins Innocent Otse was summoned for questioning over multiple financial misconduct allegations, but he declined to cooperate despite receiving several invitations at his known addresses.
On Tuesday morning, the EFCC released a statement revealing that the petitions against Otse contain severe allegations that warrant investigation.
Although the Commission is aware of Otse’s public criticism of its operations, it emphasized that his arrest was prompted by the seriousness of the financial crimes being investigated, not his comments.
The EFCC stated it legally detained Otse, having secured a valid Remand Order. Otse has been granted administrative bail and will be released after fulfilling the required conditions.
The Commission recognized the significant public interest and reactions to its operations, calling for refraining from speculations about its motives, thereby enabling the EFCC to fulfill its duties without hindrance.
The EFCC guaranteed that upon completion of investigations, suitable charges would be filed.
