Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has directed all members of his cabinet to adorn the iconic “Asiwaju cap” whenever they appear in native attire at official meetings or functions.
According to the directive, any commissioner or cabinet member who arrives at the State Executive Council meeting without the cap will be denied entry into the Council Chamber.
The “Asiwaju cap,” famously worn by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has long served as a distinctive part of his political identity. While many Nigerians recognize the style, few understand its symbolic meaning.
The cap, a traditional Yoruba design marked by three or four broken lines or shackles, represents liberation from oppression and all forms of limitation. It serves as a metaphorical “Statue of Liberty” for Asiwaju Tinubu, signifying freedom, resilience, and the spirit of possibility.
The symbolism of the design, observers note, aligns with the values of courage, boldness, perseverance, and determination traits that have defined Tinubu’s political journey over the decades.
Governor Okpebholo’s directive is being interpreted by political watchers as both a gesture of admiration and a symbolic alignment with the President’s ideals.
