Chaos in Kano as Pillars Fans Invade Pitch During Clash with 3SC
There was total pandemonium in Kano on Sunday as irate supporters of Kano Pillars Football Club invaded the pitch during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.
The unrest reportedly began after a contentious refereeing decision that angered the home fans. Within moments, the atmosphere turned chaotic as sections of the crowd stormed the field, attacking match officials and forcing the referee to escape for safety.
Security operatives on duty made frantic efforts to contain the situation as tensions flared, with some of the invading supporters also targeting players from the visiting Ibadan side.
In a bid to restore calm, security personnel fired tear gas to disperse the unruly crowd, leading to further confusion both inside and outside the Sani Abacha Stadium.
By the time order was eventually restored, the match had been disrupted, and details regarding injuries or property damage remained unclear as of press time.
The NPFL management is expected to review the incident and impose appropriate sanctions on those found culpable, with disciplinary measures likely to be taken against the Kano-based club.
