Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC, Cites Marginalisation and Unfair Treatment in Ogun State Former senator and daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has announced her resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as persistent marginalisation and unfair treatment within the party’s structure in Ogun State, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS. In a statement made available to SavannahNewnow, Iyabo Obasanjo expressed disappointment over what she termed the continuous exclusion of her and her supporters from key political activities and decision-making processes within the party. According to her, despite years of loyalty and commitment to the APC, she was repeatedly sidelined and denied opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth and development in Ogun State. The former senator alleged that certain influential figures within the party had consistently worked against her political aspirations, creating an environment that was neither inclusive nor accommodating. She noted that several attempts to address her grievances through internal party mechanisms yielded no meaningful results. “It has become increasingly difficult to remain in a political party where fairness, equity, and inclusiveness are no longer guaranteed,” she reportedly stated, adding that her decision was reached after extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and family members. Iyabo Obasanjo maintained that her resignation was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to uphold her principles and political values. She emphasized that every member of a political organisation deserves equal treatment and the opportunity to participate without discrimination or undue interference. Iyabo Obasanjo served in the Senate representing Ogun Central and has remained active in political and public affairs over the years. Her resignation adds to the growing list of political realignments and defections currently shaping Nigeria’s political environment.
