President Bola Tinubu has backed out of his earlier plan to attend this year’s 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, opting to tackle pressing domestic issues instead. SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria at the global summit.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Thursday.
The statement, titled “Vice President Shettima to Lead Nigeria’s Delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly,” explains that Tinubu’s decision is rooted in his desire to address national challenges, particularly those arising from the recent devastating floods. It reads: “President Bola Tinubu will not attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this year. Therefore, the President has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation.”
