Former Nigerian Chief Justice Mohammed Uwais has passed away at 89, a family source confirmed, stating that he died on Friday in Abuja.
The source said arrangements are in top gear for his funeral prayer and burial.
Justice Uwais was born on June 12, 1936, and served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1995 to 2006.
After serving on the bench, he was appointed by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to lead the electoral reform committee, which proposed sweeping changes to Nigeria’s electoral system in 2008.
