BREAKING: Court acquits Fayose of money laundering charges

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has been cleared of all money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos delivered its ruling on Tuesday morning, ending a prolonged legal battle that had lasted for several years.

Fayose, who faced allegations of laundering public funds during his governorship, consistently maintained his innocence.

The EFCC accused him of misappropriating hundreds of millions of naira, charges that garnered national attention and dominated political discussions for years.

The court upheld the no-case submission filed by Fayose’s legal team, ruling that the prosecution had failed to make a prima facie case that would require the defendant to enter a defence.

In its judgment, the court stated that the EFCC’s evidence was “insufficient” and lacked the weight required to sustain the serious charges brought against the former governor.
