Chief Waheed Popoola, the Afobaje of Ibadanland from the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, in Ibadan South East Local Government Area, performed a traditional ceremony by placing Akoko leaves on the head of former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, amidst cheers from the crowd.
The ceremony is part of the preparations for Ladoja’s procession to the Ose Meji House, where he will be crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland after departing from the Labosinde Compound.
Following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan who passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, Ladoja emerged as the Olubadan-designate.
Dignitaries at the event included the High Chief of Ibadanland, Aare Latoosa, Chief Onikepo Akande, among others.
