Chief Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, says the party will take disciplinary action against members who fail to adhere to its rules.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the elder statesman disclosed that the PDP’s National Executive Council would convene on May 27 to resolve the party’s internal crisis, with possible expulsion of disloyal members as one of the potential outcomes.
George claims that some PDP members prioritize personal gain over serving the people, which he believes contradicts the party’s founding principles.
“As politicians, is it only for their own personal gain that they are looking at? What about the impact?
What is democracy? It’s all about the management of the resources of the land for the benefit of the people. That is not what they have done now.”
He added that in the upcoming NEC meeting, key decisions would be made.
“And I am hoping that by the 27th of this month we will meet in a closed door and tell ourselves some home truths.
The NEC is empowered to take action, and we must be honest with ourselves and return to the principles established by our party’s founders.
The PDP has struggled with internal conflicts since the 2023 elections, hindering its ability to present a unified opposition to the APC.
Some members of the PDP have publicly declared their support for President Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC, including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, who has stated that he will remain in the PDP while backing Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Criticism has been raised by other party members, who claim that the leadership is too lenient towards disloyal behavior.
